“Ensimmäinen varsinainen ShoWhatin keikka vedettiin Jarkon 30-vuotissyntymäpäivillä, jonne teimme juhlavieraille kaksituntisen esityksen,” Osku muistelee.
Jarkko jatkaa: “Siitä se työ vasta alkoi. Tehtiin keikkoja siellä minne päästiin. Sana levisi ja muutamassa vuodessa huomasimme viihdyttävämme niin vieraita yritysjuhlilla kuin myös perheitä risteilyaluksilla.”
“Vuosiin mahtuu monta hahmoa. Päivitämme show’ta aina, kun esille nousee persoonallisia esiintyjiä, hyviä biisejä tai ajankohtaisia asioita. Rakastan, kun yleisö ratkeaa kahtia nauraessaan ja esim. Celine Dion kumiveneineen saa aina sen reaktion aikaiseksi. Dolly Parton ja Celine ovat olleet mukana alusta alkaen, rouvat vaan paranevat vanhetessaan,” Osku naurahtaa.
“Paula, Kaija, Marion, Madonna ja Whitney seuraavat rakkaina mukana vuodesta toiseen, samoin meillä on myös aina ollut mukana pop-rock- ja mies-hahmoja, esimerkiksi Ville Valo. Tämä oli varsinkin alkuaikoina uutta ja ihmeellistä Suomen drag-skenessä, jossa oltiin totuttu klassisiin Shirley Bassey ja Evita-tyyppeihin. Uudet ajan ilmiöt ovat aina kutkuttavia,” kertoo Jarkko.
“Kun aloitimme, drag-showt olivat lähinnä marginaaliyleisön viihdykettä. Nyt dragesityksistä on tullut jo koko kansan viihdettä, johon törmää kaikkialla. Saamme isotkin konserttisalit täyteen ja show’ta tulee katsomaan jo perheen pienetkin lapset.”
”Tänä päivänä drag on Suomessa huomattavasti ammattimaisempaa kuin vuonna 1998. Suomen drag-ammattilaiset ovat lunastaneet paikkansa viihdemaailmassa muiden viihdyttäjien rinnalla. Drag oli aikoinaan pikkutuhmaa mekkoiluharrastelua, nykyään se on tunnustettu viihteenmuoto.”

”The first actual ShoWhat gig was at Jarkko’s 30th birthday party, where we did a show for two hours for the guests invited,” Osku recalls.
Jarkko continues: ”and that was when the work begun. We did gigs where ever they would let us. Word spread around and in a few years we realized that we were entertaining guests in private business parties as well as families on cruise ships.”
”There has been a lot of characters during these years. We always update the show, whether it is about an individual or original performer, good songs, or some topical things trending at that moment. I just love when the audience laughs so much that they are about to burst, and for example Celine Dion with her rubber boat always gets that reaction. Dolly Parton and Celine has been there since the beginning - these madams just keep getting better and better as they grow older,” Osku laughs.
”Beloved Paula Koivuniemi, Kaija Koo, Marion Rung, Madonna and Whitney follow us from year to year, but we always have some pop rock and men characters along such as Danny, Ville Valo, Lauri Tähkä and Hanoi Rocks. This was really new and amazing especially in the beginning of the drag scene in Finland, when people had only been used to classical Shirley Bassey and Evita kind of characters. The phenomenons of modern times are always very fascinating,” Jarkko tells.
”When we begun, drag shows were entertainment mostly for the marginal audience. Now drag performances have become entertainment everywhere around the country. We are able to fill up big music halls and even the smallest kids will come see our show with their families.”
”Today's drag is remarkably more professional in Finland than what it was back in 1998. Finnish drag professionals have reclaimed their place in the world of show along other entertainers. At one time drag was just a case of naughty-men-in-dresses, but nowadays it is an acknowledged form of entertainment.”
